An eight-year-old girl was been expelled from her school after telling a female classmate she had a crush on her, the girl’s mother says.

Chloe Shelton, was ousted from Rejoice Christian School in Owasso, Oklahoma after the incident last week, according to reports.

Delanie Shelton, the mother of the second grader, told CNN she was summoned to the school to collect her daughter after she was removed from the playground and spent the next few hours in the principal’s office.

She added that Chloe was ‘devastated’ by the move, and has been asking her mother if God still loved her.

“I was angry, hurt, betrayed, sad”

“Before I was even called, the vice principal told Chloe that the Bible says that women can only have children with a man,” the mother alleged. “[The vice principal] asked me how I feel about girls liking girls and I told her that I see no issue with it.”

Days later the school reportedly told the mother they were “ending their partnership” with her family, also expelling her five-year-old son.

According to the Shelton, when she asked why, the superintendent said her beliefs do not align with theirs.

“I was so blindsided. I was angry, hurt, betrayed, sad… so many different emotions. I just couldn’t believe it,” added Shelton. “I asked him to have a sit down meeting to discuss it and process it better and he refused, saying that ‘nothing more needed to be discussed.'”

Attitude has approached Rejoice Christian School for comment. In a statement to CNN, Superintendent Joel Pepin declined to publicly comment, stating, “Due to privacy and other factors, it is the school’s policy to refrain from public comments regarding any particular student or family.”
