Gok Wan, Olly Alexander, Jodie Harsh to attend the Stonewall Season’s Closing Celebration next week
By Josh Lee
Stonewall, the lesbian, gay, bi and trans equality charity, and its latest and exciting event!
From November 1-10, LGBT folk and their allies will be introduced to the first ever Stonewall Season.
A ‘festival of events to celebrate LGBT life and culture’, the Season includes bake offs, film screenings, panel discussions and a collection of club nights, in sixty or so events across England, Scotland and Wales.
And while we’ve heard about some of these events already, including the launch event in Manchester (1 November), details on the closing celebration have been scarce.
Why should the final event have more significance? Because while it’s definitely not the (now defunct) Stonewall Awards, and is certainly ‘not a replacement’ for them either, it’s Stonewall’s final fundraiser of the year and so we’ve been expecting some surprises. And they haven’t let us down.
As mentioned earlier, there are some spectacular names involved in the event, which combines an art exhibition, disco and experimental food and drink experience.
Over 60 artists have contributed to the exhibition, designing bespoke pieces for the charity to auction off live on the night.Years and Years frontman Olly Alexander is one of the artists, alongside Gareth Pugh and the hugely acclaimed Maggi Hambling and Marc Quinn.
Providing your soundtrack to the evening, TV favourite Gok Wan will be showing us his deck skills, as he takes on a brand-new hat of DJ, followed by a closing set from the fabulous Jodie Harsh. The pair will follow on from the tech-tastic soundw of DJ Sonikku.
While this all goes on, experimental food and drink connoisseurs Bompass & Parr, who will be treating guests to a whiskey tornado experience, as well as floating edible glitter. In fact, we hear that drinks and canapes are on the house all night!
Matt Horwood, Senior Communications Officer, Stonewall said: ‘We’re certainly packing a punch with this year’s Stonewall Season Closing Celebration, which could not be more apt after what we know will be a spectacular series of events across England, Scotland and Wales.
‘We’re sure that whiskey, glitter, bespoke art and Gok Wan each have a place in someone’s heart – and so one thing we can promise is something for everyone’. You can say that again.
Stonewall Season’s Closing Celebration takes place at Tanner Warehouse, Bermondsey Street on Thursday 10 November.
Tickets are £149 and can be purchased here.
