Google backs gay rights with rainbow Olympics Doodle

By Sam Rigby

Google has marked the beginning of the Sochi Winter Olympics with a Doodle supporting gay rights.

The homepage for the search engine has rebranded in rainbow colours, with various Olympic sports pictured.

A quote from the Olympic Charter beneath the Doodle reads: “The practice of sport is a human right. Every individual must have the possibility of practising sport, without discrimination of any kind and in the Olympic spirit, which requires mutual understanding with a spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play.”

The move follows controversy surrounding Russia’s anti-gay laws, with a ban on ‘gay propaganda’.

Channel 4 have also rebranded in rainbow colours to support gay rights, after they aired the harrowing Hunted documentary earlier this week.
