The president of Grindr has said that marriage is between a man and woman.
Scott Chen, the president and former CTO of the gay hook-up app, made the comments in a now-deleted Facebook post where, as well as saying marriage is between heterosexual couples, he said he doesn’t know why people donate to LGBT causes.
According to the Grindr-owned magazine Into, Chen wrote: “Some people think the marriage is a holy matrimony between a man and a woman.
“And I think so too. But that’s your own business. Some people think the purpose of the marriage is to have a child who carries your DNA.
“But again, that’s your own business.”
He went on to say that marriage is a “personal issue” and that there are some “people that are simply different from you, who desperately want to get married. They have their own reasons.”
Chen then continued with his anti-LGBT rant and asked why people donate to LGBT causes rather than giving money to “places that are in dire hunger, poverty or suffering from war”.
He wrote: “Why spend all that money to stop people who love each other from getting married? Aren’t there more important stuff in life?”
Following his comments, Chen told The Guardian that he does in fact support gay marriage and that his comments were “based on my own personal experience”.
The CTO – who identifies as straight – said: “I am a straight man married to a woman I love, and I have two beautiful daughters I love from the marriage.
“Different people have their different feelings about their marriages. You can’t deny my feelings about my marriage.”
