Gus Kenworthy perfectly shuts down troll who asks if he’s ‘the man or the woman’
By Will Stroude
US Olympic skier Gus Kenworthy might have had less than a week to adjust to life as openly gay man, but he’s already shutting down inane, ignorant comments with the conviction of someone who’s been out for years.
Since coming out in a frank new profile for ESPN last Wednesday (October 22), the Sochi silver medallist has received a wave of online support from the public and celebs including Miley Cyrus, Olly Alexander and Ellen Page, but that doesn’t mean an ignorant few haven’t slipped through the cracks.
One such user decided to wheel out that age-old question every gay man is tired of hearing: ‘Who’s the ‘woman’ in your relationship?’

To which Gus – who also showed off a revealing, Mean Girls-inspired Halloween outfit last week – delivered the perfectly-executed response:
In a relationship I am the man. As is the other man. I'm gay. Not trying to emulate a heterosexual relationship. https://t.co/AJwyskECWf

Explaining his reasoning for coming out last week, the 24-year-old had said: “Part of the reason I had such a difficult time as a kid was that I didn’t know anyone in my position and didn’t have someone to look up to, who’s footsteps I could follow in.
“I hope to be that person for a younger generation, to model honesty and transparency and to show people that there’s nothing cooler than being yourself and embracing the things that make you unique.”
Looks like you’re doing a stellar job so far, Gus.
