Harry Potter star and film legend Alan Rickman dies, aged 69

Alan Rickman has died at the age of 69.
The British acting legend, who was best known for his roles in Die Hard, Love Actually, and the Harry Potter franchise, passed away following a short battle with cancer, his family said on Thursday.
“The actor and director Alan Rickman has died from cancer at the age of 69. He was surrounded by family and friends,” a statement read.
The much-loved star notably won a Bafta for playing the Sheriff of Nottingham in 1991’s Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, but will be remembered among a younger generation for his role as Professor Severus Snape in the Harry Potter film series.
More recently, he lent his voice to Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland sequel, Alice Through the Looking Glass, which is set for release in May 2016.
