Hugh Jackman’s wife has fended off rumours and speculation once again that the Aussie actor is gay.
Appearing on the Not an Overnight Success podcast Deborra-Lee Furness, 66, dismissed such rumors as “silly” and said that if The Greatest Showman star, 53, was gay, he would be gay.
Rumours that Hugh is gay have followed him and Deborra-Lee, an actress, around for years.
“It’s so silly”
Discussing the flack and negative press that celebrities often get, a lot of which can be unfounded, Deborra joked that Hugh had been “gay for whatever”.
“I mean, hello guys – if he was gay, he could be gay!” she continued. “He didn’t have to hide in the closet anymore, and he’d be dating Brad Pitt, or whatever. Not that Brad’s gay, but you know what I’m saying!”
She added: “It’s so silly, and then people perpetuate silly things and it’s boring.”
Deborra-Lee previously fought off rumours about Hugh’s sexuality in 2020 when she said: “I see these magazines, and they’re so mean-spirited. So I hope people don’t buy these magazines and realise it’s all made up.
“It’s just wrong. It’s like someone saying to Elton John he’s straight. I’m sure he’d be pissed. He’s not straight!”
The Aussie also tackled rumours in a 2018 interview where he said: “Some dudes do get upset, some dudes say ‘Don’t say I’m gay’ [but I am good]”.
He believes the rumours started after he played the gay singer-songwriter, Peter Allen, in the stage musical The Boy From Oz.
Hugh and Deborra met in 1995 on the set of the Australian TV show, Corelli. They married in 1996 and after moving to the US in the early 2000s adopted two children – Oscar, now 22, and daughter Ava, now 17.
