Debra Messing has slammed NBC for airing a ‘disgusting racist ad’.
NBC – which airs Messing’s show Will & Grace – ran an advert paid for by President Donald Trump which focuses on Luis Bracamontes, a Mexican man who was deported but returned and killed two California deputies.
Bracamontes boasted in court at the time: “I’m going to kill more cops soon.” And the advert – which was tweeted by the president – had text which blamed the death of the officers on the Democrats.
It read: “Democrats let him stay. Let him into our country and let him stay.”
It also juxtaposed Bracamonte’s boating with footage of immigrants entering the American border to create fear and panic.
The advert was deemed to racist for other networks such as CNN to air but NBC aired the advert but have seen pulled it down.
Now Messing – who is an outspoken advocate for marginalised people – took to Twitter to apologise to Will & Grace fans and slammed the network for airing the advert.
To our @willandgrace fans—I want you to know that I am ashamed that my network aired this disgusting racist ad. It is the antithesis of everything I personally believe in, and what, I believe, our show is all about. @nbc pic.twitter.com/CLinZKHB47

NBC have since put out a statement which reads: “After further review we recognize the insensitive nature of the ad and have decided to cease airing it across our properties as soon as possible.”
