has re-entered the Top 40 after UKIP councillor David Silvester claimed that the recent UK floods were caused by the legalisation of same-sex marriage.

Following a social media campaign which attracted over 15,000 Facebook likes, the classic disco hit has charted at number 31 on the Official Singles Chart today (February 2), the OCC has confirmed.

David Pop, one of the campaign’s organisers, told the OCC: “I’m incredibly proud of the song getting to 31 in the charts. It makes me feel very humbled to be part of a community that will pull together to fight back against bigotry. It’s very comforting to know that British people will always speak up and challenge comments like David Silvester made.”

It’s Raining Men by The Weather Girls originally peaked at number two on UK’s Official Singles Chart in 1983.

Elsewhere on today’s Official Singles Chart, London-based classical crossover combo Clean Bandit notch up a second week at number one with Rather Be, holding Will.i.am and Miley Cyrus’s Feelin’ Myself into second place. The highest new entry of the week comes from Katy B, who debuts at number five with Crying For No Reason.

Meanwhile, Katy Perry’s Dark Horse – already a number one hit in the US – climbs to number 19 and Sophie Ellis-Bextor notches up her 11th Top 40 hit after Young Blood rises to number 34.
