Ivan Massow releases London Mayor campaign video
By Will Stroude
London mayoral hopeful Ivan Massow has released a campaign video declaring he is a ‘gay, ex-alcoholic dyslexic’ as he officially launches his bid to become the Conservative party’s candidate to replace Boris Johnson in next year’s election.
Describing the video as an “honest, wart-and-all” portrayal, is shows a cartoon version of himself saying: “I’m gay, I’m an ex-alcoholic. I’m dyslexic. I’m adopted. I’m an activist. I’m a businessman. I’m a disrupter. I’m a do-er. I’m not your typical politician.”
The 47-year-old, who is currently expecting a baby with a female friend, said of his decision to make the video: “I wanted to be upfront and honest from the get-go, which is why this video is so personal.
“I’m not your typical politician, I hate red tape, I’ve been a Londoner for 25 years, I take the Tube and I get things done, which is why I think I’d make a positive impact on the city as Mayor. I also know I can’t do it alone, which is why I want to know what issues matter to other people.
“I will use their views to help me make decisions on what is best for London.”
Speaking to Attitude earlier this year, the outspoken businessman and former Attitude Naked Issue star argued that gay men often tend to be Tory-leaning without realising. He also said recently that the community needed to “grow up” when it came to the issue of drug use.
