Police in Scotland have said that they aren’t taking any action over trans supporters who posed for a photo outside JK Rowling’s Edinburgh home last year.
The Harry Potter author claimed she’d been ‘doxxed’ after an image of Holly Stars, Richard Energy, and Georgia Frost holding signs supporting trans rights circulated around social media in November. She claimed her address as ‘leaked’ in the image.
But now Police Scotland has confirmed that there was no criminality.
“No criminality has been established”
The image in question was deleted shortly after it was uploaded, but that didn’t stop it being shared widely. In a statement, reported by the BBC, Police Scotland say: “Inquiries were carried out and no criminality has been established.”
Tweeting about the incident in November, the Harry Potter author, who’s stirred up controversy with her views on sex and gender in the last couple of years, said the three people had stood in such a way as “to ensure that our address was visible” and their intent was to intimidate her.
Last Friday, my family’s address was posted on Twitter by three activist actors who took pictures of themselves in front of our house, carefully positioning themselves to ensure that our address was visible. 1/8

In 2020 Rowling published an essay where she cited concerns about single-sex spaces such as bathrooms and changing rooms and that she has “deep concerns about the effect the trans rights movement” She also mocked people who menstruate.
Her comments led to several of Harry Potter‘s stars, including Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint to issue statements in support of trans people and distance themselves from the author.
She was also absent from a recent reunion special, Harry Potter 20th anniversary: Return to Hogwarts following the controversy.
In a short Twitter feed at the tail end of last year, Rowling said she had “never said there are only two genders. There are innumerable gender identities.”
Small but important point: I’ve never said there are only two genders. There are innumerable gender identities. 1/3 https://t.co/szCHOwoP4i
