Kate Middleton’s brother James wants you to come out with… marshmallows

By Troy Nankervis

The younger brother of Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, reckons if you’re considering coming out, the best way to do it may be with marshmallows. Yes really.

James Middleton is the 27-year-old founder of printable marshmallow company Boomf, whose online marketing video has been raising some eyebrows for its unorthodox yet endearing way of sharing the important news with friends and loved ones.

At the start of the video, one of the voice characters explains that Boomf is “a delicious marshmallow with your message on it”.

“Oh yeah?”, replies another character.

“Oh yeah, anything. Like, congratulations on…

“Congratulations on passing your driving test

“Erm, yeah, or I’m coming ou-

“Coming all the way from Italy.’

Starting at £15 a box, it’s probably not the cheapest method of sharing a message with loved ones, but the website reports some 1.3 million marshmallows have made their way into mailboxes across the globe. So clearly, the novelty factor is proving popular.

“Boomf is all about the big messages in life. We felt we were missing a way to say ‘straight is great, but gay is the way’,” reads a message on the company website.

“These pre-designed messages make that nerve-wracking announcement a whole lot sweeter.

The company, which describes itself as the alternative to chocolates or flowers, is expecting a turnover of £2.5 ($3.56) million for 2016, despite losing £243,000, Gay Star News reports.

While the British Royal Family have always sidestepped direct statements of support around gay rights, the Duke of Cambridge, Prince William, participated last September in a anti-bullying session at Hammersmith Academy, which include discussion around the best way to address homophobic bullying.

“I would start on that side [comfort the victim] and end up here [confront the bully],” he said.

When a student said they would confront a homophobe, the 33-year-old Duke added, “as the young man said, I would try to confront.”
