Katie Hopkins to contest Miliband’s seat in election

By Attitude Magazine

UPDATE: OK, it’s midday, so we can admit this story was an April Fool’s prank. Since posting the story this morning, we’ve had a mixed reaction – some of you immediately picked up that it was a hoax, many were outraged at the ‘news’ of Katie Hopkins joining the election race, and – perhaps most worryingly of all – some of you seemed quite pleased with the news! Katie herself even joined in the fun, hopping on to social media and treating the story as though it were entirely true (nice one, Hopkins).Happy April Fool’s Day, everyone. Here’s our (entirely made-up) story, if you missed it…

After stating on Twitter last week that she will leave the country if Labour wins the General Election, firebrand talking head Katie Hopkins is going one step further and standing against the Labour leader Ed Miliband in his Doncaster North constituency.

This morning, April 1st, Katie revealed her plans exclusively to Attitude, as part of her continuing quest to become England’s next great gay icon. “People think I’m all talk, but that’s not true. To prove that fat people can lose weight, I actually went out and put on three stone and lost it again. Now that I don’t think Ed Miliband is fit to run the country, am I going to sit at home moaning and tweeting about it? No. I’m going to do the one thing I can to stop it: run against him.”

Asked if she’d ever been to Doncaster before, Katie admitted she hadn’t: “Frankly, it seems like the sort of place where parents would give their children lower-class names like Chardonnay or Tyler. They’re probably all fat too. Now, shall I say something offensive about disabled people or old-age pensioners or have I done that already? It’s hard to keep track.” Hopkins said she will be launching her campaign as an Independent candidate at midday today, at the West End Working Men’s Club in Bentley.

Zen Ed Miliband

“People might think I’m a ridiculous candidate, but frankly, I don’t think anyone’s more ridiculous than Ed Miliband,” she told us in our exclusive interview. “He only has 400,000 Twitter followers and two kitchens for crying out loud!”

This isn’t Katie’s first foray into politics. In 2009 she stood as an Independent candidate in the European elections, for the South West England constituency, where she polled 0.6% of the votes cast. This time however, she hopes to win. “I’m going to cause an earthquake in British politics,” she boasted. “Or at the very least, a torrent of angry tweets.”
