Kellie Maloney claimed LGBT acronym is confusing and called for removal of transgender

The former boxing manager has called for the removal of transgender in the acronym

Kellie Maloney has called for transgender people to be removed from the LGBT+ acronym after dubbing it “confusing”.

The former UKIP candidate, who came out as transgender in 2013, has admitted she believes including the trans community in the term for lesbian, gay and bisexual people causes confusion as the public don’t understand the concept of being trans.

Over the weekend, Kellie told Robert Peston on ITV: “The LGB is about your sexuality and the T’s about your gender and I think it’s very confusing to the general public out there to understand it.

“I don’t think you can wake up in the morning and just say, ‘I want to be a female or I want to be a male’.

“But I think that the system at the moment is very intrusive.”

The former boxing manager recently voiced her support for an update of the Gender Recognition Act, allowing trans people to legally change their gender without medical checks.

On Monday, a group of pro-LGBT organisations signed a letter to Equalities Minister Penny Mordaunt calling for clarification about when a review of the law will take place.
