Kylie Minogue’s fiancé Joshua Sasse enlists celebs to help fight for equal marriage in Australia

The decision to allow a public vote on same-sex marriage in Australia has been met with criticism from politicians, activists and celebrities alike, who have all voiced fears that a plebiscite would give voice to homophobia in the country. These fears were quickly realised, with one cartoonist depicting LGBT people as Nazis in an anti same-sex marriage cartoon.

Despite this, the plebiscite is going ahead, and those on the right side of history are ramping up their voices as they campaign for same-sex marriage – including Kylie Minogue’s fiancé, Joshua Sasse

Last month, Kylie spoke about her British fiancé shock that equal marriage wasn’t legal in Australia, saying: “He just can’t fathom that same-sex marriage hasn’t been legalised and of course I back him up on that, we are waiting for it to happen.”

Since, he’s put his money where his mouth is, and formed Say I Do Down Under, a campaign which enlists famous faces to encourage people to use their vote to support equal rights.

Kylie Minogue took to twitter to voice her support for the campaign, headed up by finance Joshua Sasse, while Dolly Parton was pictured with the couple, with the caption, “Spread the love and #sayidodownunder #dollyparton @kylieminogue.”

Say I Do Down Under is a website that promotes marriage equality. On the site, Sasse writes: “Have you ever been in love? Are you in love? Could you imagine yourself there one day?

“Imagine too then, having your government deny you that right — what if you couldn’t marry that person. Your person.

“I was shocked to find out earlier this year that same-sex marriage in Australia is still illegal. There are many hurdles to jump in order to make constitutional change, but we are now the closest we’ve ever been to that change.

“Let’s raise our voice and public support for change. Get a shirt. Wear your heart on your sleeve. Support Australians 4 Equality, a coalition of organisations working to deliver a winning campaign so we can legalize all love in this country and SAY ‘I DO’ DOWN UNDER.”

Australian actor Margot Robbie and Scissor Sisters frontman Jake Shears have also leant their support to the campaign.
