Lance Bass and husband Michael, Attitude’s Love & Marriage cover stars
Today Attitude launches its second Love & Marriage special annual issue, celebrating advances in marriage equality with almost 150 pages of love, marriage and wedding-themed content.
Our cover stars for the special commemorative issue are former N*Sync star Lance Bass and his husband, Michael Turchin, who pose in an exclusive spread for the magazine and open up about their fight to get married.
“It’s a confusing issue, as people are just misinformed about it. Millions are preached to every Sunday about how wrong gay marriage is, and it’s so hard to change those people’s minds. But I’m surprised at how quickly the rest of the States are falling in line,” Bass says of US attitudes towards marriage equality in the interview.
The pair wed in a lavish ceremony in December 2014, but it wasn’t before they put in the hard yards campaigning for same-sex marriage.
“We spent a lot of time on the front lines, especially on the Prop 8 fights, because Prop 8 [an anti-marriage equality ballot measure passed in 2008 that denied Californian same-sex couples the freedom to marry] is what kind of started it all,” says Bass.
“And when they passed Prop 8 here, we all thought it was dumb, so we were tirelessly fighting the fight with so many great leaders like Dustin Lance Black. It was a real bonding experience, for sure. When they passed gay marriage here in June 2013, we knew we were going to get married in California to honour everyone who fought so hard for it. We wanted to honour all of them by getting married here, in this state.”
