By Josh Haggis
The mother of Leelah Alcorn has spoken out for the first time since her daughter’s suicide.

In a new interview, Carla Alcorn discussed her grief over Leelah’s death, while appearing defiant about using female gender pronouns to describe her child.
“We don’t support that, religiously. But we told him that we loved him unconditionally,” she told CNN. “We loved him no matter what. I loved my son. People need to know that I loved him. He was a good kid, a good boy.”
A petition on change.org to have Leelah’s female name put on her headstone as an act of remembrance has garnered more than 55,000 signatures.
Meanwhile, ‘It Gets Better’ founder Dan Savage has reacted to the story, saying that Leelah’s “criminally reckless” parents should face criminal charges over their daughter’s death – find out more here.
