Lewis Hamilton wears kilt to ‘make amends’ for publicly shaming nephew for wearing a dress
The Formula One racer sparked outrage after shouting at his nephew for wearing a princess costume on Christmas Day
Lewis Hamilton has appeared on the cover of British GQ in a kilt to “make amends” for publicly shaming his nephew for wearing a dress.
The Formula One racer sparked outrage last December when he shared a video on Instagram which saw him shout at his nephew for wearing a princess costume on Christmas Day.
Now, Hamilton hopes to make amends by appearing in the British magazine and wearing several kilts from Tommy Hilfiger, who Hamilton is an ambassador for.
British GQ came up with the idea, suggesting Hamilton to wear something pink or something similar to a skirt for the cover.
Speaking about the horrifying video, Hamilton told GQ: “I still hold regret for it today, but ultimately I think it’s important in life for people to be held accountable for their actions and particularly their words, and I was.
“I’ve been through quite a lot of [criticism], although there are things I regret in my life, I wouldn’t go back and change them, because if I did I wouldn’t be the man I am today, I wouldn’t have the mindset I have today.”
He added: “I wouldn’t have grown if I hadn’t fallen and stumbled and gotten back up.”
The controversial video began with Hamilton addressing the camera, saying: “I’m so sad right now – look at my nephew.” The camera then cut to his nephew playing by the Christmas tree, wearing a fuschia pink dress and waving a wand.
Hamilton then asked the boy: “Why did you ask for a princess dress for Christmas?” before shouting: “Boys don’t wear princess dresses!”
The video caused an uproar and Hamilton issued an apology the new day but was then spotted liking tweets declaring he had done nothing wrong.
