LGBT relationship to feature in Once Upon a Time still under wraps
Producers of hit ABC program Once Upon a Time have stalled on revealing any further details about their promise to include an LGBT relationship in season five of the popular program, which returns to US screens on November 29.
Speculation around which characters would be matched up has been growing since the creative team first made the announcement back in September.
“We also feel the weirdness of the more we talk about it, the more does it seem marginalised as opposed to normalised,” said executive producer Adam Horowitz at the September season premiere.
But Entertainment Weekly now reports Horowitz would “rather not comment on who” the relationship will be with, or “what it is about”.
“Our goal is to make it as we see it in the real world, just as normal and as a part of every day life as it should be,” he said.
With interest around the storyline rife online, it has been assumed by many Once Upon a Time fans that Mulan, played by Jamie Chung would get together with Ruby (Meghan Ory), with fans coining the celebrity power couple acronym, MulanRouge!
Keeping things under wraps, Edward Kitsis, also an executive producer on the series, said the creative team was also resisting leaking any spoilers to the media, who have also been applying mounting pressure.
“Our worry is the more the press asks us, the more it’s turning into the very special episode of Once, where we have a gay character, as opposed to what we wanted, which was we tell a story of love no different than Snow [Ginnifer Goodwin] and Charming [Josh Dallas] or Hook [Colin O’Donoghue] and Emma [Jennifer Morrison],” he said.
“That’s where we are and why we’re hesitant to comment specifically on what our plans are.”
Either way, we at Attitude HQ will be looking very forward to the episode Once it finally arrives.
