London’s iconic landmark Tower Bridge is flying the rainbow flag for the first time in history

The bridge is celebrating the LGBT community ahead of Pride in London this weekend

London’s iconic Tower Bridge is flying the rainbow flag ahead of Pride in London this weekend.

The official Twitter feed for the bridge, which crosses the Thames towards Tower of London, revealed the flag is flying next to the Union Jack to celebrate the upcoming Pride parade this Saturday.

Alongside a picture of the flag, they wrote: “Ahead of the Pride in London Parade this Saturday, Tower Bridge is proud to be flying the rainbow flag – marking the first time the rainbow flag has been placed on the ancient bridge.

“Visit the Pride in London website for more information on how to get involved: prideinlondon.org #PrideMatters #Pride2018”

The flag has been noticed by a number of social media users who took to the sites to post the rainbow flag.

One user, Andy Woodfield, posted a video of the flag on Twitter and wrote: “Fabulous to see the #Pride #Rainbow flag flying over @TowerBridge this evening, now an ancient symbol of equality, diversity and inclusion for our fabulous #LGBT+ community because #PrideMatters”

This isn’t the only London landmark to fly the flag for the first time, with the likes of The Mansion House and Central Criminal Court also supporting London’s LGBT+ community.
