Madonna spent Thanksgiving holiday with homeless LGBT youth
The Queen of Pop spent her Thanksgiving holiday with kids at an LGBT youth centre, according to Gay Star News.
The 58-year-old singer spent the day at New York City’s Ali Forney Centre, an organisation that aims to protect LGBT youth from homelessness and empower them.
Madonna shared a group selfie with the kids on Instagram, explaining that she chose to spend the holidays with them because “everyone deserves to be loved and everyone deserves a home.”
The Centre is named after a 13-year-old child that left home after their family couldn’t accept their gender identity. It works with youth across New York City to provide them the necessary tools to live independently and not fall into homelessness.
Alongside the Instagram post, the singer wrote: “This centre protects LGBT Youth from the harms of homelessness and empowers them to reclaim their lives. Each year the Ali Forney Centre provides care for over 1,200 youth who are rejected by their family due to their LGBT identity.”
“AFC provides these youth with tools they need to become independent and more importantly, AFC provides these youth with the love and support they are denied by their families. Because everyone deserves to be loved and everyone deserves a home.”
AFC helps an estimated number of 1,400 children every year who have become homeless after being kicked out by families who were unaccepting of them.
