A man claims he was dropped from Married at First Sight days before shooting because producers ‘could not find a match’ for him.
Melbourne-based actor Wil Karroum – who identifies as gay and is Muslim – was set to take part in Married at First Sight Australia and although he was told more than 1,000 other gay people had applied, the matchmakers were unable to find him a match.
While speaking to Daily Mail Australia, Karroum said: “I understand rejection is a part of life, but I feel like I’ve been played as a fool and had a carrot dangled in front of me.
“I foolishly believed the process and I genuinely want to find love. I’m a gay Muslim man and I get no support from my family.
“I need all the help I can get.”
Karroum reportedly postponed moving house and cancelled a holiday as he waited to hear back from producers of the show – which sees two people legally get married the first time they meet.
He went on the say that while preparing to be on the show he had to fill in several questionnaires and undergo interviews.
While having a face-to-face interview with executive director Tara McWilliams, he claims he was asked ‘very intrusive’ and ‘severely personal’ questions such as his favourite sexual position.
