Man left naked on Canal Street after hook-up robbery

A man was left naked on Manchester’s Canal Street earlier this week after being robbed during a hook-up.
A passerby called 999 after spotting the naked man on the Canal Street towpath near New Union Hotel at around 8.30pm on Tuesday evening , Manchester Evening News reports.
The victim says he met another man at a bar in the city’s gay village before making their way to the canal towpath – a popular cruising spot – where he willingly removed his suit and underwear, which contained his keys, wallet and phone, police said.
The assailant then grabbed his belongings and fled towards Whitworth Street, leaving the man stranded naked in the city centre.
While no charges were filed against the naked and no doubt embarrassed man, Greater Manchester Police have cautioned people about the dangers meeting with strangers on the towpath.
Inspector Phil Spurgeon said of the incident: “This isn’t about blaming the victim, it’s a reminder to be aware of your surroundings and thinking about putting yourself in an obviously vulnerable position.”
Meanwhile, a Manchester gay bar manager was jailed for 27 months earlier this week, after pleading guilty to sexual assaulting a teenage patron who had fallen asleep in the venue.
