Man sentenced to 60 hours community service after homophobic attack on two men in Cardiff

A man from Blaenau Gwent in Wales has been ordered to carry out 60 hours of unpaid work and pay £200 in compensation following a homophobic attack against two men in Cardiff in September 2021.
In December, 22-year-old Ieuan Lewis, admitted to two counts of assault by beating when he carried out the attack on Moorland Road in Splott on 17 September last year.
Lewis, who comes from Tillery Road in Abertillery in South Wales was found to have been motivated to some extent by the victims’ sexual orientation during his appearance at Cardiff Magistrates Court.
On Friday 7 January he was sentenced to 60 hours of community service and to pay compensation to his victims.
Due to the homophobic nature of the attack, Lewis had 20 hours of work added on to what he would have been given and this must be completed before 6 January 2023, as reported by the South Wales Argus.
Homophobic hate crimes such as these have sadly risen in recent months with more and more seemingly being reported.
