Australian model Andrej Pejic has revealed that she underwent gender reassignment surgery earlier this year.
Pejic, 22, pictured both right and left in the accompanying image, was discovered at the age of 17 while working in McDonald’s, and has since gone on to become an internationally-recognised model.
During her five-year-long career, she has modelled for international brands including Jean Paul Gaultier, Marc Jacobs and DKNY, and has appeared on the cover of French Vogue and Elle.
“I think we all evolve as we get older and that’s normal but I like to think that my recent transition hasn’t made me into a different individual,” Pejic wrote in an official statement on her Tumblr page.
“I’m the same person, no difference at all just a different sex. I hope you can all understand that.”
In 2011, Pejic finished in 98th place on FHM’s 100 Hottest Women in the World poll, but was later removed from the list after editors realised she was male at the time.
