Actor Matt Bomer has revealed that he married his partner, Hollywood publicist Simon Halls, three years ago. The couple, who have three children together, wed in a private ceremony in 2011. Bomer, who stars in the upcoming HBO film The Normal Heart, came out publicly two years ago, in February 2012. The 36-year-old actor spoke about his marriage in an interview with Details magazine, thanking the writer of the original The Normal Heart play, Larry Kramer, for playing a part in helping gay people attain the right to get married. “I wouldn’t have a lot of the rights I have today if it wasn’t for people like Larry,” Bomer said. The 36-year-old went on to discuss his role in HBO’s adaptation of the iconic play, saying: “I just wanted to be involved with the project in some capacity. I didn’t care what my part was.” Later in the interview, Bomer added: “It’s rare that you get to be a part of something that, hopefully, has some significance socially or historically. And then to have a role that changes you? I think that’s the best you could hope for in this profession, and that was certainly the case here. I don’t think I’ll ever be the same as I was when I started the job.” The Normal Heart, which also stars Mark Ruffalo, Julia Roberts and Jim Parsons, is set in New York City in the early 1980s at the onset of the HIV-AIDS epidemic. Ruffalo plays Ned Weeks, a writer and LGBT activist who witnesses the spread of the disease that has begun to claim the lives of many in the gay community, and sets out to discover the truth. It premieres on May 25 on HBO, and will air in the UK on Sky Atlantic at a later date.
