Michael Douglas is to star in Marvel’s Ant-Man.

The Behind The Candelabra actor will star alongside Paul Rudd in the Edgar Wright-directed film, it has been announced.

He will play Hank Pym, the original Ant-Man, who invented the Ant-Man helmet and size-shifting serum.

It had originally been thought that Rudd would take on the role of Pym, but it has now emerged that he will play Scott Lang.

Lang became Ant-Man after stealing Pym’s inventions, later deciding to use them for the greater good.

Ant-Man – due for release on July 31, 2015 – will reportedly focus on both Pym and Lang, showing Douglas as Lang in the 1960s before following Lang as he accepts the role of hero.

Douglas won ‘Best Actor in Mini Series or TV Movie’ at the Golden Globes on Sunday (January 12) for his performance as Liberace in Behind The Candelabra.
