Michael Fassbender has revealed that he is open to playing a gay character on screen.

The 12 Years a Slave actor said that he would always accept the role if it was a “good story”.

“If the right story comes, if it’s a good story, I always do it,’ he said. ‘It doesn’t really matter if the character is gay,” Fassbender told Gay Star News at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts Tea Party in Los Angeles.

The 36-year-old also described opposition to gay marriage as “ludicrous”.

“I’ve always thought it was a bit crazy that it wasn’t allowed. It’s so weird, bizarre,” he said on Saturday (January 11). “I totally favour it. People are happy and want to get married, why not? I don’t understand where the resistance would be to be honest. It seems bizarre to me – ludicrous.”

Fassbender is tipped to receive an Oscar nomination later this week for his supporting role in 12 Years a Slave.
