Michael Sam on TV kiss controversy: ‘Did people forget I was gay?’

Michael Sam has expressed his confusion over those who were shocked when he kissed his boyfriend live on TV earlier this year.
Back in may, the NFL star was seen kissing his boyfriend, Vito Cammisano, after he was told over the phone that the St. Louis Rams had selected him for their team.
The kiss caused a wave of controversy, with 47% of Americans labelling it “inappropriate.” Find out more here.
In a new interview with talk show legend Oprah Winfrey, Sam has addressed critics of the kiss, suggesting they wouldn’t have minded so much had it been a woman he was kissing.
“Everyone made a big deal out of it,” said Sam. “It’s just a kiss. Did you forget that I was gay? Should I be kissing a woman instead?”
