Miley Cyrus has auctioned off her own homemade Caitlyn Jenner artwork to raise money for HIV/AIDS research.

The 22-year-old star – who this week launched a new Instagram campaign to improve transgender visibility as part of her LGBT advocacy group The Happy Hippie Foundation – sold the pieces at last night’s Foundation for AIDS Reasearch (amfAR) Inspiration Gala, raising a total of $69,000.

Cyrus was honoured at the event in New York City alongside talk show host Andy Cohen. Upon receiving her award, the Wrecking Ball singer said: “As a little girl, it was not a dream of mine to be the face of a lipstick, but it was a dream of mine to change the world”.

Cyrus’s date to the ball was with photographer, poet and former Glee Project contestamt Tyler Ford, who the star described as a “queer, bi-racial, agender person”. She shared a snap of Instagam of the pair at the party alongside Orange is the New Black star and trans activist Laverne Cox.

As well as the awards, the amfAR Gala included a runway show and performance by Mary J Blige. The organisation is trying to raise $100 million by 2020 in order to fund innovative research in the battle against HIV/AIDS.
