Miley Cyrus: ‘I change my style every two weeks, let alone who I’m with’
Miley Cyrus has continued to talk openly about her sexual fluidity; saying in a new interview that she identifies as pansexual.
The one-time Hannah Montana star and sledgehammer enthusiast says in the latest issue of Elle that she’s enjoying being single; dampening reports suggesting she’s exclusively attached to Victoria’s Secret angel Stella Maxwell.
“I’m very open about it – I’m pansexual,” she said. “But I’m not in a relationship. I’m 22, I’m going on dates, but I change my style every two weeks, let alone who I’m with.”
Miley had previously said how difficult she found coming out to her mother Tish; telling Paper magazine: “I remember telling her I admire women in a different way. And she asked me what that meant. And I said, I love them. I love them like I love boys.
“And it was so hard for her to understand. She didn’t want me to be judged and she didn’t want me to go to hell. But she believes in me more than she believes in any god. I just asked for her to accept me. And she has.”
Over recent years the singer has tried to convert her huge supply of column inches into a platform for philanthropy, and with great success: she’s launched her charity The Happy Hippie Foundation to help homeless and LGBTQ young people, and been very vocal in campaigning for it.
“I was kind of embarrassed that I got paid money to shake my ass in a teddy bear costume,” she explained to Elle. “I should not be worth the amount I am while people live on the streets.”
Speaking of that teddy bear costume, she’s returning to the scene of the crime – the MTV VMAs – this weekend, but this time as host. There are even unconfirmed rumours that she plans to surprise-release her new album to coincide with the ceremony this Sunday.
Her 2013 opus Bangerz has shifted 1.1 million copies, while its two monster singles ‘Wrecking Ball’ and ‘We Can’t Stop’ have racked up a combined total of 10.3 million.
