Mitcham on Commonwealth gold: ‘Oh my God, finally!’
By Josh Haggis
Out gay Aussie diver Matthew Mitcham has reacted excitedly to winning his first ever Commonwealth gold medal.
Mitcham and his diving partner Domonic Bedgood narrowly beat England’s Tom Daley and James Denny to gold in the final of the men’s synchronised 10m platform event last night (August 1). Find out exactly how close the result was here.
The gold medal was especially sweet for 26-year-old Mitcham, who had won six Commonwealth silver medals prior to taking home the top prize at the event last night.
In a Twitter post, Mitcham celebrated his win and thanked his fans – who call themselves ‘Bitchams’ – for their support. See his tweets below.
