Mortal Kombat character revealed as gay in new game?
By Josh Haggis
A character in the latest entry in the Mortal Kombat franchise has apparently been revealed as gay.
Mortal Kombat X, which hit stores earlier this week (April 14), includes new character King Jin, who creators appeared to have suggested is a closeted gay man.
In a scene that details the fighter’s backstory, another character, Raiden, suggests that Jin should join the Shaolin monks.
After explaining that he can’t because “they won’t accept” him, Raiden responds: “They only care of what is in your heart, not whom your heart desires.”
Although his sexuality hasn’t been officially confirmed, Mortal Kombat X’s Cinematic Director, Dominic Ciancialo, appeared to hint that fan’s assumptions were correct this week on Twitter:
“I see people are picking up on the subtle exposition contained in Kung Jin’s flashback. Glad we have observant fans!”
Meanwhile, videogame studio Square Enix were recently forced to alter the design of a male character in the latest Final Fantasy game after some fans argued he was “too sexy” – find out more here.
