Mrs Brown’s touching marriage equality video

Those voting ‘yes’ in the upcoming Irish Marriage Equality referendum just got a very high-profile supporter on their side – Mrs Brown.

The foul-mouthed, kind-hearted star of hit comedy Mrs Brown’s Boys has shot a touching video in support of the yes vote, comparing opposition to same-sex marriage to earlier historical opposition to mixed-race and mixed-religion marriages.

“They still went and got married and the world didn’t end, and we all grew up a little bit. I know some of you don’t think it’s right, and all I can tell you is I can’t describe the joy I feel to see my son Rory having the same opportunity for happiness as everyone else’s son,” she says.

“Go out and vote – that’s the important thing. Every generation gets the chance to make a change – and you’re going to get your opportunity on May 22nd.”
