Mumbai Pride Parade: More than 10,000 turn up to 9th annual parade

India’s most populated city Mumbai this weekend celebrated its 9th annual LGBT pride parade, which saw more than 10,000 people join in with the celebrations.

Gay Star News report that veteran LGBT rights activist Ashok Row Kavi was quoted saying “We have had a growing number of heterosexual people participating in the Pride to show their support and that’s been a great thing,” at the event.

Amongst the estimated 10,000 crowd were Indian actors Manoj Bajpai and Rajkummar Raocrew, Manvendra Singh Gohil – the first and only openly gay prince, and Mr Gay World India, Anwesh Sahoo, who said “I wanted to run wild with colours, and also be authentically Indian. Seeing so many others in Indian wear makes me feel proud of my choice.” of his Rajasthan-inspired mirror-work outfit, according to Mid-Day.

Catholic nuns were also present at the event. Sr Lillyann Joseph, who is part of AHF (Aids Healthcare Foundation) India, said at the event: “I work with many people present here. So, I am here to support them.”
