Nintendo apologises for leaving gay characters out of game

Nintendo have apologised for leaving same-sex couples out of an upcoming life simulation game.
Gamer Tye Marini started the ‘Miiquality’ campaign – in reference to avatars game players can create called “Miis” – last month (April), saying that the Japanese company were “excluding a lot of people” by not allowing same-sex relationships in their game Tomodachi Life.
In a statement released yesterday Friday (May 9), Nintendo said:
“We apologize for disappointing many people by failing to include same-sex relationships in Tomodachi Life. At Nintendo, dedication has always meant going beyond the games to promote a sense of community, and to share a spirit of fun and joy. We are committed to advancing our longtime company values of fun and entertainment for everyone.”
The company added it was too late to alter the game – but promised to create a game that “better represents all players” should a follow-up title be made.
