NTAs 2014: ‘Coronation Street’, ‘Doctor Who’ lead winners

and Doctor Who were among the big winners at the 2014 National Television Awards last night (January 22).

Ant and Dec also picked up multiple prizes, with I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! winning Entertainment Programme, while they were also presented with the prestigious Landmark Award.

Coronation Street beat rivals EastEnders, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks to win Best Serial Drama, and Julie Hesmondhalgh won Serial Drama Performance just days after her emotional exit from the soap.

Doctor Who‘s Jenna Coleman was on hand to collect the prizes for Best Drama and Best Drama Performance, which was won by her former co-star Matt Smith. Smith could not attend due to his commitments to American Psycho.

Sherlock‘s Benedict Cumberbatch won in the new Best Detective category and Paul O’Grady’s For The Love of Dogs picked up the prize for Factual Entertainment.

Strictly Come Dancing continued its run of victories over The X Factor by beating the ITV series to the Talent Show award.

Mrs Brown’s Boys, Educating Yorkshire and This Morning also took home prizes.
