One of Britain’s ‘first gay dads’ has announced his engagement to his daughter’s ex-boyfriend.
Barrie Drewitt-Barlow, who announced his separation from his husband of 32 years, Tony Drewitt-Barlow, last year, confirmed his engagement to Scott Hutchison, 25, on Instagram over the weekend.
The proposal took place during a family holiday to Croatia, which was also attended by Barrie’s daughter and Scott’s ex, Saffron, 20.

Barrie shared a video of a boat decked out with rose petals, champagne and a diamond ring before posting pictures of the couple and family together.
In March, Drewitt-Barlow and Hutchison announced they were expecting triplets via surrogate, though The Sun reports there is now just one baby, a girl, expected to be born in October.
Drewitt-Barlow previously said that despite dating his daughter Saffron, Scott had never had a sexual relationship with her and the pair were more like “friends”.
Declaring his love for Drewitt-Barlow on Instagram after the engagement news broke, Hutchison wrote: “You know what, after reading everything I read in the papers or what I hear! Nothing will ever change! I’ll love this man til the day I die!
“He’s changed me in so many ways and turned me into someone know one will ever understand!”
Barrie and Tony Drewitt-Barlow shot to international fame in 1999 when they welcomed twins Saffron and Aspen via a surrogate, later winning the legal right to be named as parents on a birth certificate, in a landmark ruling for LGBTQ parenting.
The Essex couple later up their own transatlantic surrogacy company, welcoming another son Orlando, in 2003 and twins Jasper and Dallas in 2010.
The family – including Barrie’s new partner Scott – all reside together at Barrie and Tony’s home in Florida.
