One of Britain’s ‘first gay dads’ – who split from his husband earlier this year – is planning to have twin girls with his younger lover, who happens to be his daughter’s ex-boyfriend.
Barrie and Tony Drewitt-Barlow shot to international fame in 1999 when they welcomed twins Saffron and Aspen via a surrogate, later winning the legal right to be named as parents on a birth certificate, in a landmark ruling for LGBTQ parenting.
The couple later up their own transatlantic surrogacy company, welcoming another son Orlando, in 2003 and twins Jasper and Dallas in 2010.
Last week, it was reported the Drewitt-Barlows called time on their relationship, with Barrie, 50, revealing he has fallen “head over heels” for his daughter Saffron’s ex-boyfriend, 25-year-old Scott Hutchison.

Barrie recently shed more light on the amicable split, revealing that the entire family – including Scott – are currently all living together at the couple’s $6 million home in Florida.
And now, while speaking to The Daily Mail, Barrie revealed he and his new partner are planning to expand their brood by having twin daughters.
He said: “I don’t want there to be any secrets and I want to get any negativity out of the way before our babies arrive.
“Yes, it is unorthodox, but we are a loving family and our priority is to have a stable home for our kids and what is now an extended family.
“It works for us – and if people are shocked, well that’s their problem not ours.”

Barrie and Scott will fertilise an egg each to be carried by a surrogate so, if both embryos survive, they will have twins and said they would also use sex selection to have daughters.
“I hadn’t contemplated having any more children, especially at my age,” Barrie continued.
“But Scott has always wanted to have a child of his own so I said if he wanted us to be parents together, I would support him in that and have a baby with him.
“I wanted to make sure that Tony was going to be ok with it, especially as he is seriously ill and in need of constant care and attention himself.
“I can’t believe that 20 years ago I was doing the exact same thing with Tony and I’m here again, full circle. I’m excited but nervous now. Tony has promised he would be godfather.
“I want to do this with Scott because I know he really wants to be a dad and I want to parent with him and share the experience with him.”
