TV presenter and journalist Peaches Geldof has passed away at the age of 25.
Geldof, the daughter of musician Bob Geldof and late TV presenter Paula Yates, was pronounced dead by the South East Coast Ambulance Service earlier this afternoon (April 7).
Beforehand police had been called to an address near Wrotham in Kent following a report of concern for the welfare of a woman present there, the BBC reports.
A spokesperson for Kent Police said in a statement to the press: “At this stage, the death is being treated as unexplained and sudden.”
Born into a high-profile family, the second daughter of Bob Geldof and Paula Yates began her media career at the age of 14, writing regular columns for publications including the Daily Telegraph and The Guardian.
She later went on to present several TV shows including Peaches: Disappear Here, a 2008 MTV series which followed her bid to launch a youth-oriented magazine, and OMG! with Peaches Geldof, an irreverent chatshow that aired on ITV2 in 2011.
She also modelled for the likes of Ultimo underwear and Australian fashion brand Dotti.
Geldof was a vocal supporter of LGBT rights who in 2012 joined The Independent‘s campaign to legalise same-sex marriage in the UK.
She wrote at the time: “For a country and culture that declares ourselves so progressive, our governments, citizens and, of course, our churches, can be small-minded bigots at the best of times. One day we’ll look back on the gay marriage ban as we look back on historical events like apartheid. Because in the end, that’s what it is – pointless, futile segregation.”
Peaches Geldof is survived by her second husband, rock singer Thomas Cohen, whom she wed in 2012, and their two sons, two-year-old Astala Dylan Willow, and Phaedra Bloom Forever, who will turn one later this month.
Cohen has released a statement to the press, saying: “My beloved wife Peaches was adored by myself and her two sons. I shall bring them up with their mother in their hearts everyday. We shall love her forever.”
Her father Bob Geldof has also released a statement, saying: “We are beyond pain. She was the wildest, funniest, cleverest, wittiest and the most bonkers of all of us.”
Peaches Geldof’s mother, Paula Yates, died in 2000 following a heroin overdose. At the time, Peaches was eleven years old.
