As the upcoming marriage equality referendum in Ireland approaches, a photograph showing two women kissing beside a ‘No’ campaigner has gone viral online.
Photographed outside Trinity College in Dublin last week, the man is seen holding a sign reading: ‘God says no. Nature says no. Vote no.’
Speaking to Buzzfeed, photographer James Delaney explained that he initially did not realise that he had “snapped the man’s reaction” alongside the two women.
“My Facebook has been on the go nonstop for the past day,” he said. “There has been a huge positive reaction to the photo, more so than I imagined. I never thought it would get this much attention.
“I don’t think many people saw the women kiss, as they were kind of shielded by the crowd. But those who did began to cheer, then everybody naturally began to cheer. It was a special moment to see.”
Meanwhile, the First Minister of Northern Ireland and leader of the DUP, Peter Robinson has said that he would expect people to obey the law if homosexuality was made illegal.
