A pioneering LGBTQ activist has been killed in his home in Mexico.
Oscar Cazorla was one of the founders of the Vela de las Autenticas Intrepidas Buscadores del Peligro, an annual celebration that helps promote respect for the muxes community in Juchitan, Mexico.
Muxes is a term used for those identifying as a third, non-binary gender which has been celebrated since pre-Hispanic times.
But tragically over the weekend, the 68-year-old LGBTQ activist suffered a blow to the heart by a sharp object and now the Oaxaca police have opened a murder investigation.
Felina Santiago Valdivieso, the president of the Vela de las Autenticas Intrepidas Buscadores del Peligro, wrote on Facebook: “The Authentic, Fearless, Danger Seekers are in mourning.
“You left us with the broken heart. Rest in peace. My brother Oscar Cazorla Lopez.”
Valdivieso then told CNN Espanol: “He was a very happy person who welcomed anyone in his home with a smile.
“We cannot imagine who may have killed him. We are involved in a wave of violence affecting large parts of Mexico.”
