Pulse Club victims’ families fight over OneOrlando charity fund

By Fabio Crispim

The OneOrlando Fund announced that they received around $29.5 million which was divided between the families and survivors of the Pulse massacre.

Families of the deceased victims will receive around $17.2 million while the 37 hospitalised survivors will receive between $65,000 to $300,000 depending on the length of time they were in hospital for.

But there are reports that the family members of the 49 victims, who may have hated them and refused to collect their bodies, are now fighting to get some of the money.

Chairman of the OrlandoOne group, Alex Martins, said that half of the families of the victims are fighting with other family members and partners over claims to the money.

Speaking to Orlando Weekly Alex Martins said, “We do have a number of disputes amongst families of the dead.”

“It’s parents in dispute with a partner, who perhaps they didn’t know, or estranged parents, claiming one of them should receive the funds.”

A partner of one of the Orlando victims told Gay Star News that his boyfriend was kicked out of his home as a teenager but claims that the family are now fighting him for the money.

Alex Martins also revealed that 44 claims have been rejected because it appeared that people had lied about being at Pulse or being hospitalised following the shooting.
