Royal baby named Charlotte Elizabeth Diana
By Ben Kelly
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have named their new daughter Charlotte Elizabeth Diana.
The new princess was born early on Saturday morning, and is fourth in line to the throne, after Prince Charles, Prince William, and her older brother Prince George. The name was confirmed by Kensington Palace this afternoon, as well as her title and style.
The name pays obvious homage to the current Queen Elizabeth, who will become the longest reigning monarch in history this year, and also to William’s mother Princess Diana, who died in 1997. Charlotte could be a nod to the baby’s grandfather Prince Charles. The last Queen Charlotte was the consort of King George III in the 18th century.
