Sam Smith storms iTunes chart with ‘Money on My Mind’

Sam Smith has stormed the UK iTunes chart with his debut single Money on My Mind.

The singer could put an end to Clean Bandit’s four-week reign at the top of the singles chart if he stays in pole position for the rest of the week.

Money on My Mind is the first single from Smith’s debut album In The Lonely Hour, which will be released in May.

It is the first solo release from the BBC Sound of 2014 champion, following high profile collaborations with Naughty Boy and Disclosure.

Smith tweeted: “Thank you so much to everyone who has purchased Money On My Mind so far. I love you all xx.

“Going for dinner with my mum and best friends to have some champagne to celebrate!!!! This next week is gonna be so nerve racking!!!!”

He will receive the Critics’ Choice Award at the 2014 Brit Awards at The O2 in London on Wednesday (February 19).
