A secondary school for Orthodox Jewish girls in North-West London which refuses to teach LGBTQ lessons has been rated inadequate.
The independent Shiras Devorah school – which opened last September on the premises of Woodside Park Synagogue in London – has been given lowest rating by the education watchdog Ofsted after the school failed to prepare pupils for life in ‘modern Britain’.
During the inspection, Ofsted officers found that the school’s leaders ‘do not permit reference to gender reassignment or sexual orientation’ and therefore restricting pupils’ ‘preparedness for life in modern Britain’.
Inspectors also found that the pupils – who are aged from 11 to 12 – were not making enough progress in other subjects and their standards fell below expectations for their ages.
Despite refusing to learn about the LGBTQ community, Ofsted found the girls were taught about physical or mental disabilities ‘because they put themselves into the shoes of such a person’.
