Sheffield group need your votes to put on transgender film festival

A social enterprise group from Sheffield are hoping to win a vital People’s Project prize which would allow them to put on a transgender film festival in the area.

E.D.E.N Film Productions hope their proposed project Transforming Cinema will give transgender and gender nonconforming people a louder voice and a higher platform to raise the issues that affect them, like depression, self-harm and suicide. They hope to challenge ignorance and discrimination through this film festival which would champion trans people, films and stories.

They also hope to mentor people in South Yorkshire and help them create films to submit to the festival.

The group’s Chair, Bella Qvist (pictured top right) spoke to Attitude about why they took on this project, and why they need your support to win.

“We would love it if people wanted to vote for us, not only because it would show what great support there is within the LGB community and elsewhere, for trans people but also because we need this in the UK today,” she said.

“Time and time again trans people are silenced in the media or the butt end of a joke or portrayed as a negative stereotype and it’s time we change that and let transgender people speak for themselves. So please vote (Trans)forming Cinema!”
