Sir Elton John slams Germaine Greer over transgender rant

Germaine Greer has hit headlines several times recently for things said against transgender people, and now Elton John has waded in to label her an “attention seeker”.

Greer had previously used Elton and his husband David Furnish to illustrate her point about the “deconstruction” of motherhood in modern society.

“It sounds like she is living in another century, to be honest with you,” he told the BBC. “She is an attention seeker.

“There are a plethora of people being born who are uncomfortable in their own skin as being male or female, and want to change.

“I’m not a transgender person – but we have to have sympathy for them and we have to stop the treatment, the barbaric treatment for people like that, especially in prisons. They’re easy targets.”

Greer had said last month: “Just because you lop off your dick and then wear a dress doesn’t make you a fucking woman. I’ve asked my doctor to give me long ears and liver spots and I’m going to wear a brown coat but that doesn’t turn me into a fucking cocker spaniel.

“I do understand that some people are born intersex and they deserve support in coming to terms with their gender but it’s not the same thing. A man who gets his dick chopped off is actually inflicting an extraordinary act of violence on himself.”

When a petition stopped her from giving a speech at a university, she repeated her views in another TV interview.
