Son whose mother saved him from Orlando gunman breaks down during her funeral
Brenda Lee Marquez-McCool was at Pulse nightclub with her son Isaiah Henderson when it was attacked by gunman Omar Mateen.
However, Brenda, instead of hiding, threw herself onto her son to protect him from Mateen’s bullets. She saved her son’s life but died in the process.
Brenda’s funeral took place on Monday (June 20) at the First United Church of Orlando and Isaiah paid tribute to his mother.
“I never thought that her life would be ended right in front of my eyes. My mother accepted everyone with open arms. She loved everybody equally no matter what.”
As he spoke, Isaiah collapsed into his brothers’ arms.
“I haven’t stopped crying since,” he adds.
According to ABC the funeral was also full of humour and colourful moments as they remembered Brenda’s life.
Isaiah spoke about how he and his mother would wrestle and play fight and he always lost.
Brenda’s brother also spoke at the funeral. He said, “I have nothing to say to you because my heart is on fire.”
When the funeral had ended the family walked outside and released 150 white balloons in her honour.
