A teacher is facing felony charges of unlawful sexual relations after meeting a student on Grindr.
Justin Adrian, 33, was a high school teacher and a Shawnee City councilman in the Kansas state but in September, Adrian starting speaking to a student using the gay hook-up app.
After recognising each other, they continued speaking on Snapchat and when the conversations became ‘sexual in nature’, they decided to meet in Adrian’s classroom during the middle of the school day.
According to court documents, the former teacher locked the door and they started engaging in a sexual act. After they were finished, Adrian gave the student a pass so he wouldn’t be marked as late to his next class.
The student was 18 at the time and of the legal age of consent, however, it is against the law for teachers to engage in any sexual behaviour with students at their school.
When the parents of the student found out, they contacted the school officials and Adrian confessed and was immediately fired.
Adrian also resigned as Shawnee City councilman. He was arrested but has since been released from custody after the judge reduced his bond from $250,000 to $50,000.
The former teacher is facing one felony charge of unlawful sexual relations and if convicted, he could spend up to two and a half years in prison.
Adrian is due back in court on November 7.
